Denali to Anchorage

We had hoped to get some good views of Mt. McKinley on the way south, but it was cloudy and overcast the entire day. We did get some interesting shots of mountains in the clouds though. One looked like it had a toupee on! LOL

We traveled 240 miles down to Anchorage. We stopped down at the Byers Lake Campground where Tab and Deanna had spent the night. They decided to join us on our way to Anchorage, so we hooked up and stopped at a little place down the road for lunch. I think it was called Mary's McKinley Lodge. Mary was a school teacher who decided to come to Alaska and make a life. She was instrumental in getting the Parks Highway implemented and family members still run the business.

We didn't see any wildlife on the road down, but we did see more road construction. Up here that usually involves at least 10 miles behind a pilot car. The road construction is usually a totally torn out road with the bed being graded and rolled and wetted down. It's a real mess, but I can't fault them for working on their roads. They only have a short time to do it and even in the case of having roads completely washed out, they normally have them back in passable condition in a few days.

We are in the Golden Nugget RV Park in metropolitan Anchorage. Going to go to Earthquake Park today and perhaps the Float Plane Harbor and hopefully see some more wildlife.

I would like to give my "Best Wishes" to my son and daughter-in-law for their baby shower today in Florida. Wish I could be there with you. Much love to you all!

Till next time. . .

Dale
