Puttin' on the Ritz!

Today was the Ladies' Luncheon here at the park. We had a pot luck lunch and then a style show. Anyone could be in the style show, but you must have purchased your clothes from one of the many "ropa" stores located throughout the valley. Ropa is the Spanish word for "clothes" and in these "stores," clothes are piled high on mounds and you plop yourself on top of the mountain and start sorting through. Everything is sold by the pound and it was interesting to see what the ladies came up with on their forage through the ropa.

As it turned out, there were several beautiful dresses. I'm not sure what you would wear these dresses to, but they were beautiful and colorful neverthe less. Here are some of the items modeled by their owner (the last black/white gown won the competition):

It was a lot of fun and I am ready to go shopping!

Till next time. . .

Humm, very interesting. I wonder if these "ropa" stores sell full size dresses. You didn't mention what kind of prices they had - full or discounted. I would hope the latter since you have to dig for them! Will have to plan a visit to a couple if we make it down there next year - where was yours?

Janice, you can find anything there. One gal modeled what looked like a French maid's outfit, complete with fishnets. All sizes, all styles. It is ALL sold by the pound. 45 cents a pounds. I don't think any of those dresses were more than $5. Some stuff still has the price tags on it. Other stuff might be used, I'm not sure. Men's stuff too. I didn't shop. My one dog is sick. . . on a water pill. We don't get too far away. :-)
